Marietta is a city with a rich history and a variety of cultural and recreational options. It is home to six historic districts, some of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. The city's visitor center is located in the historic train depot and the town square, which is the former location of the county courthouse, is the site of several cultural productions and public events, including a weekly farmers' market.

The Marietta Players perform semi-professional theater year-round and the historic Strand Theatre has been renovated and features live theatre, concerts, classic films, and other events. The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is located in the old Post Office building and the Marietta Museum of History exhibits the history of the city and county. The Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum, also called "Scarlett on the Square," houses a collection of memorabilia related to Gone with the Wind, both the book and the film. The William Root House Museum and Garden is the oldest wood-frame house still standing in Marietta and was built in circa 1845.

Marietta is also home to a number of notable landmarks, including The Big Chicken, a landmark on U.S. 41. The city has been featured in a number of films, including Gordy and Dumb and Dumber To. However, there are many areas in Cobb County that have a Marietta address, but are actually located in unincorporated areas that are administered by the Cobb County Government. One such area is East Cobb, which is home to approximately 200,000 residents. East Cobb is bordered by Cherokee County to the north, interstates I-75 and I-575, and the City of Marietta to the west and southwest, the Chattahoochee River to the southeast, and Fulton County to the east.

East Cobb is known for its highly rated public high schools, including Lassiter, Pope, and Walton High School districts, as well as most of the Sprayberry and Wheeler High School districts, and a portion of the Kell High School district. However, in recent years, the gap between East and West Cobb has been closing, with the addition of three new high schools in West Cobb and improvements in both the academic and athletic areas at Harrison and these new schools. In addition, there has been an increase in upscale housing and more companies moving to locations outside of the perimeter in West Cobb.

Cobb County has long been a popular choice for those moving to Atlanta due to its low taxes, excellent schools, and proximity to the city through the I-75 Corridor. In recent years, Cobb County has become the third largest county in Metro Atlanta and is known for its financial stability.

East Cobb is known for its more expensive real estate, due to its excellent school systems and proximity to Atlanta. The architecture in East Cobb ranges from the cedar style homes of the 1970s and 1980s, to traditional southern style homes. There are also mid-rise condominium developments and townhomes available for young professionals. East Cobb has access to the Chattahoochee River National Park and is a convenient location for those looking to be close to Atlanta while enjoying lower property taxes than neighboring Fulton County.

West Cobb, on the other hand, was mostly rural until the late 1980s and early 1990s when land was inexpensive and growth was booming. It is located west of I-75 and includes areas such as Mableton, Austell, and Powder Springs. West Cobb is known for its more diverse housing options, including older, more established neighborhoods and newer developments with a variety of home styles. Prices for starter homes in West Cobb tend to be lower than in East Cobb, with a range of options available for first-time buyers.

Overall, both East and West Cobb have a lot to offer residents and are convenient locations for those looking to be close to Atlanta. Both areas have a variety of housing options, excellent schools, and access to parks and recreational opportunities. The decision between East and West Cobb will depend on individual preferences and budget.

Overall, Marietta is a city with a rich history and a variety of cultural and recreational options. It is an exciting place to live and visit.
